The contract is part of a larger deal, cumulatively worth $3.2 billion, the Navy and Raytheon inked in 2022.
HALO is the follow-on program to the Long Range Anti-Ship Missile, produced by Lockheed and used on both Navy and Air Force warplanes.
The development program carries a new name, the Long Range Maneuverable Fires missile, and includes a new form factor and propulsion system.
A possible budget addendum may also be coming for two additional multi-year buys, one for PAC-3 missiles and the other for GMLRS.
In the meantime, the service is embarking on a plan to refurbish 1,200 legacy Stinger missiles.
“Don’t let us tell you all that the uniformed contracting officers are the ones that are the problem,” Boeing's Michael Manazir said. “We have a shared problem and we’ve got to be able to figure out how to break through” it.
Both firms are exhibiting high-energy lasers (HEL) systems at their stations at IDEX 2023 in Abu Dhabi.
